Lecturer(s): prof. dr. Matajc Vanesa

In this seminar students improve and test their already acquired knowledge of literary history and theory (mostly from the domains of literary morphology and genology) in analysing literary texts. The lecturer begins by outlining the general issue of the specifics of literary discourse, its relationship with hybrid- and semi-literary forms and the role of literary-morphological and literary-genological aspects, i.e. the specifics of literary forms and genres, styles and textual structures in the analysis of the literariness of a text. The representation of theoretical aspects is followed by its practical application in seminar papers: Each participant selects at least one Slovene/translated literary text from the proposed textual corpus which includes prose, poetry, plays, hybrid genres, such as the documentary novel, autobiography, diary, essay, etc., and, possibly, intermedial-literary forms, such as the graphic novel or radio play. Students analyse the selected work from the above-mentioned theoretical and literary-historical aspects and present the analysis in the classroom. Participants must support their views on the specifics of the literary discourse recognised in the analysis of the selected text with arguments and express them through a dialogue with fellow students. At the end of the course, participants write a short report in which they summarize and compare the results of all textual analysis presented during the course.
