Book Topics in Popular Culture
Lecturer(s): izr. prof. dr. Blatnik Andrej
The student are in the beginning of the course introduced to the difference between 'high' and popular culture from the beginning in the times of 'Weimar classics' to the present day. They get in touch with the basic theories of culture and cultural industry (Adorno, Benjamin, Williams, Baudrillard, Jameson, Bourdieu, Groys) and face different ways of cultural mediation and usage of book contents in various media (film, comics, music, digital media ...). They reflect chosen examples and evaluate the benefits and losses in the representation in the new media. The gained knowledge enables them for a more qualified treatment of book topics, as well as for understanding of the interaction between book topics and other media of representation and their social context.
