Content
Thinking about literature between classicism and romanticism is based on a historical cultural insight into specific characteristics of russian society between 1730 and 1840. Searching for constants in culture is based on the study of specific literary texts which critically form the guidelines of cultural-historical development, but also reflect social consciousness of said period. The overview of texts pays attention to how national identity develops in literature when its establishing starts in classicism by texts which are based on the normative poetics. Then attention is paid to incidences that start to break normativity. Such literary (and cultural) forms testify to the forming of specific autonomy of literature which in Russian context never shakes off the responsibility an artist should have in the construction of social reality. In this prism of responsibility the focus is mainly on constitutive texts of that period – on classicism (Lomonosov, Deržavin, Novikov), sentimentalism (Karamazin, partly Radišcev), pre-romanticism (Žukovski), romanticism, and at the same time, on already developing shift to the construction of new (realistic) poetics (Puškin, Lermontov, Gogolj).
