Workshop Hegel And Pragmatism
We are glad to invite you to the workshop Hegel and Pragmatism, which will be held on March 9, 2026 in Ljubljana (Slovenia) at Cankarjev dom. The workshop will focus on the relationship between Hegelian thought and the pragmatist philosophical tradition.
The contributions will explore how Hegel’s conceptual development, his theory of recognition, and his understanding of the rationality of history can be placed in dialogue with pragmatist emphases on action, critical judgment, and the fallibility of knowledge. Rather than treating Hegel and pragmatism as opposing currents, the workshop will highlight contemporary attempts to read Hegel as a source of practice-oriented philosophy, while also critically assessing the limits of such rapprochement.
Co-organized by Department of History of Western Philosophy (Kyoto University), University of Ljubljana, Goethe-Institut Ljubljana, and Cankarjev dom
Supported by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number 23K21873-R7, JSPS Grant Number P24745, and ARIS Grant Number J6-50209
